GREAT BOYS STOP WARS
It is the 50TH year of Independent Bangladesh. On this occasion, an article by Tanvir Mokammel published in 'Anandabazar Patrika'. While reading this write-up I remembered a boy whom I saw in my childhood. In our school, he was two classes below me. He came wearing a T-shirt at one of our school events. I stared at the graffiti on his T-shirt for a long time. There are two reasons to be surprised. One, Graffiti on T-shirt was written in Bengali. This is not surprising nowadays, but when we were in school, we could not see Bengali writing on T-shirts. Two, the T-shirt read: The Great Boys go to war. As a child, I knew that those who do good things like studying, listening to their parents and elders, etc., are good boys. But I didn't know what 'Great boy' was. I knew what war was. প্রেমের একদিন প্রতিদিন
- প্রেমের জন্য একটি দিন নিয়ে নয়, প্রেমের জন্য এই দিনটি, মানে ভ্যালেন্টাইন্স ডে নিয়ে রয়েছে দ্বিধা-দ্বন্দ্ব-দোলাচল ও সংশয়। প্রেমের জন্য একটি দিন তো থাকতেই পারে। অনেকে বলে, প্রেম যদি থাকেই, তাহলে প্রতিদিনই থাকবে, বিশেষ একটা দিনেই কেন থাকবে ? কিন্তু, আমাদের সমস্ত উৎসব-অনুষ্ঠান সম্পর্কেই তো এ কথা বলা যেতে পারে। আমরা তো রোজই ঈশ্বরের আরাধনা করি, তবু বিশেষ-বিশেষ তিথি বা পার্বণেও তো ঈশ্বরের আরাধনাকে উৎসবে আনন্দের পর্যায়ে নিয়ে যাই। পিতা-মাতা-শিক্ষককে আমরা রোজই সম্মান করি (মাঝে-মাঝে কোনও কারণে তাঁদের সঙ্গে বিবাদ-বচসা হলেও), তবুও কেন গুরুপূর্ণিমায় শিক্ষকদের বা বিজয়ায় বাবা-মাকে প্রণাম করার বিশেষ রেওয়াজ প্রচলিত। তাই প্রেম প্রতিদিন থাকলেও তার জন্য একটা বিশেষ দিন পালন করাই যায়। কিন্তু আমার প্রশ্ন এই দিনটি নিয়ে। এই দিনটিকে কেন্দ্র করে উদারবাদী ও রক্ষণশীলতার মধ্যে দ্বন্দ্ব চলে আসছে আমাদের দেশে সেই গত শতাব্দির নব্বইয়ের দশক থেকে। এই দিনটির সপক্ষে থাকা উদারবাদীরা দুই প্রকারের। এঁদের মধ্যে একদল মানসিক দিক দিয়ে উদার। তাঁদের মতে, ভারতে এই দিনটি পালন করার বিষয়টি বিদেশ থেকে আমদানি করা হলেও এ নিয়ে
